Laying sod is much like laying brick. Begin with the longest portion of your yard. This can be along the driveway or a sidewalk. Begin laying each piece side by side in a straight line making sure there is no space in between. Begin the next row and stagger the pieces in a brick-like fashion. Creating tight seams is very important during installation. You do not want any air pockets or bare soil showing. Use a knife to trim off excess and create curves. Use a lawn roller to push sod firmly against the soil. Try to limit traffic for the first few weeks after installation while the sod is establishing.
