Maintenance & Installation

Be sure to read our best practices for installing and maintaining your newly laid sod.

  • Installations Tips

It is recommended to do a soil sample before installing your Bermuda sod. We recommend tilling your area up to have at least 3-4 inches of good soft soil and/or installing top soil. We suggest watering the pieces in as you lay it and not waiting until the project is finished to begin watering in. Watering needs to be supplemented with rainfall. For the first 2 weeks we recommend watering at least ¼ inch on days when there is no rainfall. It is important to not overwater during the first couple weeks but you do want to keep the sod and dirt moist. Once your sod has been installed we recommend watering daily but do not overwater. It typically takes 2-3 weeks for the grass to become rooted. Once grass has become rooted start a regular watering schedule and watering early in the morning. Rolling your sod with a roller helps seal the backing of the sod and dirt.We suggest watering the pieces in as you lay it and not waiting until the project is finished to begin watering in. • Maintenance Tips

During the growing season, we recommend mowing your Bermuda lawn at least once a week. Simply Sod recommends keeping your lawn between 1 and 2 inches tall Simply Sod suggests you mow with either a rotary mower or reel mower and to make sure the blades are sharp and to remove your clippings. During the growing season (when the grass is not dormant) use a fertilizer that is labeled for bermuda grasses. It is always helpful to get your soil tested to confirm what fertilizer ratio is best to use. It is very important to fertilize when the grass is dry. If you put fertilizer down on wet grass it can cause fertilizer burn. Use Pre-Emergent Herbicide in the fall and spring time to prevent weeds from germinating.
